How do I convert a Google Doc to Markdown quickly?

Select the text in the document, copy it, and paste it here. For a whole public document, Google Docs to Markdown fetches it by link.

Why did my formatting disappear?

Some apps copy plain text only. Copy from the app itself rather than from a preview, and paste with an ordinary paste, not paste as plain text.

Are images kept?

Images keep their links when the source copied them as web addresses. Images that exist only on your computer cannot travel through a paste.
