llms.txt generator
Quick answer
llms.txt is a markdown file at your site's root that tells AI models what your site is and which pages matter. Only an H1 with your name is required; a one-line summary in a blockquote, sections of links and an Optional section for pages that can be skipped are recommended. Fill in the form below to get a file that follows the llmstxt.org format, ready to copy or download. Everything runs in your browser.
# Your site
The format, in order
- An H1 with your name. The only required part.
- A blockquote summary. One line on what the site is; it is what a model reads first.
- Details. Optional paragraphs or lists, with no headings.
- H2 sections of links. Each item written as [name](url), optionally followed by a colon and a note.
- An Optional section. Links a model can skip when it is short on space. The generator always puts it last.
That is the format published at llmstxt.org. This site's own file is at askverb.com/llms.txt if you want a working example.
What to link
The pages that explain your product, not every page you have: what it does, how to get started, pricing, the docs that answer the common questions. Write each note as the reason a model would open that page.

Frequently asked questions
What is llms.txt?
A markdown file at /llms.txt that gives AI models a short, curated map of your site: what it is, in a sentence, and links to the pages that explain it, with a note on each. It was proposed at llmstxt.org so models do not have to wade through HTML and navigation to understand a site.
Where do I put llms.txt?
At the root of your site, so it loads at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt, served as plain text or markdown. A file can also sit under a subpath, such as /docs/llms.txt, to cover just that part of the site.
Do Google and ChatGPT use llms.txt?
No major search engine has said it ranks pages using llms.txt. Its value today is for AI tools and coding agents that look for it when they read a site, and it costs little to publish and keep current.
What should go in the Optional section?
Pages an AI can skip when it is short on space: the changelog, older posts, legal pages. Everything a model needs to understand your product belongs in the sections above it.
