Convert a Google Doc to Markdown

Quick answer

Paste the link to a Google Doc whose sharing is set to anyone with the link, and the converter downloads it through Google's own export and returns Markdown with headings, lists, links, bold and tables kept. A private document cannot be fetched; for one of those, copy its text and use paste to Markdown.

Any docs.google.com/document/d/... link. The tool reads the document ID from it and uses Google's export address.

How do I export a Google Doc as Markdown?

Google Docs can download as Markdown from File, Download in recent versions. This tool does it from a link, without opening the document, as long as it is shared with anyone who has the link.

Why does it say the document is not public?

Its sharing is restricted, so Google returns a sign-in page instead of the document. Set General access to anyone with the link, or copy and paste the text instead.

Are comments and suggestions included?

No. Google's export contains the document text, not its comments or suggested edits.
