Verb vs CopilotKit

CopilotKit is a stack for building your own AI agent into your application: SDKs for your frontend, a connection to whatever agent backend your team runs, and its cloud or your own hosting. Verb is the agent itself, for a product with signed-in users: you describe what it may do, and it does that work as the user who asked, through your product's own API, asking before it changes anything. If your engineers want to build and own an agent, CopilotKit is the more direct fit. If you want one working in your product without building it, that is Verb.

Every claim about CopilotKit below comes from its own home and pricing pages, read on 2026-10-13; both are linked at the bottom. Nothing here should be read as current beyond that date.

What CopilotKit is genuinely the better choice for

A team that wants to build its own agent and own every part of it. CopilotKit gives you frontend SDKs for React, Angular, Vue, iOS and Android, connects them to the agent backend you already run, supports in-app actions, shared state and human-in-the-loop approvals, and can run in its cloud or entirely in your own infrastructure. Its home page says it is used by the majority of the Fortune 500. If the agent is your product, or you have the engineers for it, that is a strong foundation and Verb is not trying to be one.

Where Verb is different

Verb is not something you build an agent with; it is the agent. You list what it may do in one file in your own repository, each action marked as reading, changing or deleting. Reads run straight away. Anything that changes data stops on a confirmation showing the real values, and the user says yes before it happens. It runs with that user's own permissions, never an admin key, so it can only do what your product would already let that person do, and every action in the log carries their name. Integrated in under an hour in most cases.

The real question is build or set up

Building an agent into a product is the part that looks small: the first answer in a demo comes quickly, and the months go into everything after it, from running as the signed-in user to confirmations people trust. The neutral comparison on /compare covers building it yourself against every other option, and why most in-app agents stall after the demo is its own article on the blog.

Common questions

What is the best CopilotKit alternative?

It depends on whether you want to build the agent or have one. CopilotKit is a stack for building your own: SDKs for your frontend, a connection to the agent backend your team runs, and a cloud or your own hosting. If your engineers want to build and own the agent, it is a strong choice. If you want an AI agent working inside your product without building one, so your users can ask for something and have it done, that is what Verb is for.

Is CopilotKit free?

Its pricing page lists a Developer plan as free forever, a Pro plan at $39 a month, a Team plan at $100 per seat a month for up to five seats, and custom Enterprise pricing, as of the research date on this page. The free plan covers one developer, with limits on threads, storage and retention.

Do I need to write my own agent to use CopilotKit?

CopilotKit describes itself as connecting any agent to any user, with connections to the agent backend you already run. In practice that means your team builds or brings the agent and CopilotKit handles getting it in front of users. Verb is the agent: you describe in one file what it may do in your product, and it does that work as the signed-in user.

How long does it take to add Verb to a product?

Integrated in under an hour in most cases. You list the actions your product's agent may take, try them on a test site that only runs on your own computer, and add one script tag. How long it takes depends on your API and how many actions you describe.
